This is my first experience with building a website, and I must say it’s been unnerving. I should have built my site months ago, but I kept waiting for one of my grandkids to help me when they were here and had time. They’re my go-to for the internet problems I come across.
I write using Word, so I’m not completely computer illiterate, but close enough that my son and daughter-in-law gave me ‘Word for Dummies’ as a Christmas present this year. My grandkids cheered. Let me tell you that’s one good book. But unfortunately for them, it doesn’t help with the internet. I still call when something doesn’t work right.
A writer friend told me that Weebly was easy to use when I got around to setting up my site. A week ago I decided I’d procrastinated long enough, so I called for backup. My granddaughter stopped by to help me build the site, and everything went fine—as long as she was here.
The following day I listened to The Beginners Guide to Weebly. It sounded simple enough, so I got started and couldn’t remember what I’d heard. Not willing to admit defeat, I switched back and forth between my website I was building and their video. It worked like a charm until their site froze, but up to that point, I liked what I had seen. The little red chat button at the bottom of the page saved the day. Moments after explaining my problem, Kelly B. came on line and talked me through my dilemma. I finished most of the site before having trouble with my laptop. At that point I decided it was the Lord’s way of saying I’d fried my brain, so I called it quits for the day.
The next morning I called my grand-daughter-in-law. She told me how to fix the computer problem, and I got on line to finish my website. I was feeling proud as punch and I knew I could finish the site. The drag-and-drop of Weebly makes using it fun and moved the cover of Hidden Hills to where it went. While I was moving the picture around the page to see where it looked the best, I discovered I couldn’t get it to lock in place.
Again I went to the little red button. This time Brandon NB came on line to help me. I must have really messed things up, because he said it would be easier to talk me through the procedure to fix the problem over the phone.
As you can see, my site is up and running—thanks to my grandkids, Kelly B, Brandon NB, and the little red button.
